Additional Sessions Judge S.C. Rajan handed down the sentence, remarking that the case fell into the category of “rarest of the rare” and thus merited capital punishment.
Railway Police had discovered three abandoned bags in a passenger train at the New Delhi Railway Station on the morning of March 2, 2001. The bags contained parts of the mutilated body of Gyani. Medical examinations revealed that he had been strangled to death before the body was chopped into pieces.
