"Based on Article 2 Verse 1 of the Corruption Law, the death penalty is only for criminals convicted for misappropriating funds for natural disasters, riots and economic crises," Marwan Effendy said.
"So not all graft cases entail the death penalty," he added.
He was responding to mounting concern in Indonesia over why criminals convicted of corruption were not immediately put to death.
