Indonesian Embassy in Singapore has once again managed to free an Indonesian citizen from legal charges in Singapore. Nurhayati, 16, has been acquitted from death row. Earlier, in March 2012, Fitriah Depsi Wahyuni, a Jember resident, was also acquitted from the death penalty. “The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore respects the existing legal proceedings but we will continue to provide assistance for Nurhayati,” said the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Andri Hadi, in a press release received by Tempo. Nurhayati, who was born in Indramayu, was facing death sentence for allegedly murdering her employer’s 12-year-old child. Upon negotiations between the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore and Nurhayati’s legal representatives, the prosecutor agreed to reduce the charges to 20 years in prison or a life sentence.
