Iran grants “furloughs” to around 70,000 inmates in the midst of the coronavirus emergency. Confirmation came from the head of the judiciary, Ebrahim Raisi, as reported by the Iranian agency Tasnim that speaks of "precautionary measures" to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Raisi explained that priority was given to prisoners with past illnesses. In recent days, the Iranian authorities had confirmed the release on a temporary basis of 54,000 prisoners after the payment of a bail.
