February 6, 2025 - IRAN. A woman, Mahtab Ghazizadeh (Qazizadeh), executed in Sari on February 6
At dawn on Thursday, February 6, 2025, a female prisoner was executed in Sari Prison.
According to HRANA the executed prisoner has been identified as Mahtab Ghazizadeh, 47 years old, and a mother of two.
Reports indicate that approximately four years ago, Ms. Ghazizadeh was arrested on charges of murdering her husband. She had her final visit with her family on Wednesday afternoon, just hours before her execution. She is the second woman to be executed in 2025.
According to data compiled by the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), at least 265 women have been executed in Iran since 2007.
The number of women executed in Iran saw a sharp rise in 2024. At least 34 women were hanged last year.
As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant officials have not publicly announced the execution.
