The death sentence of Ahmadullah Esmaeili, a 31-year-old Afghan national, was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Esmaeili had been convicted of murder. At least 36 Afghan nationals have been executed in Iranian prisons since the beginning of 2025.
According to information obtained by Hengaw, the execution took place at dawn on June 4, 2025, inside Ghezel Hesar Prison. Iranian state media have not publicly acknowledged the execution.
