November 7, 2026 - IRAN. Amir Delshad sentenced to death

Political prisoner

Amir Delshad, a 41-year-old political prisoner from Mashhad and father of two young children, has been sentenced to death over his alleged involvement in the January 2026 protests. His case is now before the Supreme Court on appeal.

According to information received by Hengaw, Branch 5 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Hossein Yazdankhah, with Seyed Reza Javad Mousavi serving as an advisory judge, sentenced Delshad to death on charges including “operational activities undermining national security and interests in support of opposition groups,” “active participation in the January 2026 protests,” and “arson and destruction of public property.”

Security forces arrested Delshad at his workplace in March 2026, Hengaw sources said. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for several weeks while held at a security detention facility. His family remained unaware of his whereabouts until a brief phone call revealed that he had been transferred to Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.

During interrogation, he was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture to extract forced confessions, which were subsequently used as the basis for his death sentence. He was also denied access to an independent lawyer throughout the judicial proceedings.

An appeal has been filed with the Supreme Court, amid growing concerns that the death sentence could be upheld and carried out.
