According to information received by Hengaw, at dawn on August 28, 2025, Banoo Moghadam, a 59-year-old Turkish woman, was executed in Abhar Prison, Zanjan Province. She had been arrested four years ago for the alleged murder of her son-in-law, whom she killed after he threatened her daughter.

Sources informed Hengaw that Moghadam had suffered from severe mental health issues for many years, and her physical and psychological condition had deteriorated sharply during imprisonment. Despite repeated medical recommendations for her transfer to specialized facilities, prison authorities denied her treatment. She was executed while in a state described as “deprived of the ability to live.”

According to data compiled by the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), at least 295 women have been executed in Iran since 2007. According to the same source, the execution of Banoo Moghadam brings the total number of women executed in Iran in 2025 to 32.
