Five death-row prisoners were hanged on June 10 at Rajai Shahr prison. According to the Iranian newspaper, Hamshahri, five people were executed on June 10, 2020, at Rajai Shahr prison. All of them were sentenced to qisas (retribution in-kind) for murder charges. IHR sources could identify two of them as Hamidreza Vafaei and Reza Nowzari. IHR Annual Reports on the Death Penalty in Iran during the last five years show that a significant portion of all executions are carried out in Rajai Shahr prison (previously known as Gohardasht). In 2019, at least 68 qisas sentences were carried out in Rajai Shahr prison. This counts for 24% of all executions for all charges in the country.
