The Iranian regime executed wrestling champion Navid Afkari on 12 September 2020. Navid was sentenced to death on charges of murdering a government agent during the anti-regime demonstrations in August 2018. The 27-year-old champion was hanged in Shiraz prison. His complaints of having suffered torture were of no avail, nor the international mobilization, to which FIFA also joined, to avoid the hanging of the sportsman. For Hands Off Cain, this execution is a clear intimidating act aimed at anyone who intends to express dissent against this regime that manages to survive only by sowing terror and repression.
