IRAN: SIX PRISONERS EXECUTED AT RAJAI SHAHR PRISON

One woman and five men on 23 September 2020 were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison, Karaj. All six prisoners appear to have been sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.
The woman, Mahtab Shafiei, 32 year old, had been sentenced to death for the murder of her husband and his grandmother.
With this execution, the number of women executed in Iran reached 108 during Rouhani’s tenure as the mullahs’ president.
One of the men has been identified as Hossein Shahani, but no information is yet available on the identities of the other four prisoners executed. At the time of publication, the execution of the six prisoners has not been announced by domestic media or official sources in Iran.
