Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei approved the commutation of death sentences against Mehrdad Sohrabi, Ahmad Batebi, Abbas Deldar and Akbar Mohammadi for their part in the student demonstrations in capital Tehran, in July 1999. "The proposal by the head of the judiciary was approved by the leader to commute the death sentences against the four convicts in the Tehran University dormitory incident to 15 years (in prison)," a judiciary statement said.
