IRAQ: 3 DAESH TERRORISTS SENTENCED TO DEATH

An Iraqi court sentenced three members of the Daesh terrorist group to death after convicting them of carrying out attacks in the western Anbar province, according to a judicial source. “The Anbar criminal court has obtained confessions from three terrorists linked to Daesh who took part in a string of operations targeting civilians and security personnel,” Abdul-Sattar Bayrakdar, a spokesman for Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, said in a statement. According to Bayrakdar, one of the three convicted individuals had taken part in an attack on an army headquarters near Ramadi; another was involved in “several terrorist operations” targeting civilians; while the third had participated in attacks on an army checkpoint and a local police station. Despite the convictions, however, the death sentences remain subject to appeal.
