An Iraqi court has sentenced a man to death over his involvement in killing 34 Iraqi, Iranian Shiites while heading for Karbala to celebrate a religious ceremony.
“The terrorist was sentenced by the Babylon Criminal Court to death after he was found implicated in killing 34 Iranian and Iraqi visitors while on their way to Kerbala, where they would commemorate Arabaeen, the 40th day of Imam Hussain’s Martyrdom,” Abdul Sattar al-Biraqdar, the spokesman for Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, told Baghdad Today.
“The convict admitted that he facilitated the entry of a dump truck driven by a suicide bomber into a patrol station on a highway near Al Shomali town in Babylon to target Iraqi and Iranian visitors, leaving about 34 of them dead,” added the spokesman.
