It was reported that Iran's revolution court sentenced to death Gholam Reza Ameli, the gang leader of an ultra-orthodox group engaged in a spate of terrorist attacks. The Persian daily Iran said that the court sentenced the most notorious leader of the Mahdaviat group to death after hearing his defence. Members of the Mahdaviat clique were implicated in the 1999 assassination attempt on the life of the former head of the Tehran Justice Department Ali Razini as well as being convicted of armed robbery from Iranian military barracks.
