It was reported that Turkey would raise the issue of the Bulgarian nurses, sentenced to death in Libya, at the 31st Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, due to open in Istanbul on June 14. Turkish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul assumed the commitment when he conferred with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Passy, who arrived on a two-day visit to Turkey earlier in the day. The five Bulgarian nurses' case was also discussed at Passy's meeting with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Prime Minister Recep Erdogan. Regarding the Bulgarian medics, Gul told Passy that, in a similar case, a Turkish citizen had been held in Libya for the last three years after being sentenced to death there on unproven murder charges.
