Jamaica signed the letter, dated 22 July 1999, addressed to the President of the Economic and Social Council, in which the retentionist countries dissociated from the Commission on Human Rights resolution 1999/61 on the question of the death penalty. Jamaica was a cosponsor of the amendments presented by Egypt (A/C.3/54/L.31 and L.32) and others (L.35, L.38, L.39, L.40, L.41, L.47) to the resolution presented by the European Union for a moratorium on executions at the 54th UN General Assembly (A/C.3/54/L.8/Rev.1).
