James Richardson, 32, black, was executed by lethal injection. Richardson had been convicted of killing Gerald Abay, a 35 year old white man, during a robbery on 17th December 1986. He was the 16th person to be executed in the State during the year, No 215 since the State resumed executions in 1974. He was the 35th to be executed in the U.S. during the year and No 633 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
