JAPAN: MAN APPEALS DEATH SENTENCE 'TO PUT MY AFFAIRS STRAIGHT'

in Japan, a 26 year old man in sentenced to death for killing two relatives appealed the ruling, but only so he can put his affairs in order, his lawyer said. Kyozo Matsumura was quoted by the lawyer as saying that the appeal does not necessarily mean he cannot accept the ruling by the Kyoto District Court, and that he wants to secure his right to send mail, which he believes is restricted following the finalization of a death sentence.  The Kyoto Detention House said it does not restrict the opportunities for sending letters even after a death sentence is finalized.  Matsumura was convicted last month of murdering his aunt, 57, and his great uncle, 72, in Kyoto and Kanagawa prefectures, respectively, in January last year.
