JAPAN: TOP COURT UPHOLDS DEATH PENALTY FOR SERIAL KILLINGS

Presiding Justice Kiyoko Okabe of the Japanese Supreme Court upheld the death penalty of Yasunori Suzuki, 41, for killing three women in Fukuoka Prefecture between 2004 and 2005. Suzuki was also convicted of stealing their belongings, and was sentenced to death at the Fukuoka district and high courts.
Rejecting the appeal by Suzuki, Presiding Justice Okabe at the top court's third petty bench said there is no room for leniency for the defendant, who claimed the lives of the three women in about one month.
