Jurors had imposed the death penalty on Dennis Reed, 36, for killing Wendy Miller, 28, on Dec. 15, 2001. Police captured him a week after the murder, driving Ms. Miller's truck with her kids as his passengers. "I was high or drunk or something. I don't remember any of the things being testified against me," Mr. Reed said.
