Justice Emmanuel Nkea of the Special Criminal Court (SCC) in Banjul, convicted and accordingly passed a death sentence on Awa Sanyang, after he found her guilty of the offence of murder. The convict was charged with murder contrary to Sections 187 and 188 of the Criminal Code, and in the bill of indictment it was stated that the convict, on or about 30th September 2012 at Brusubi Phase One, murdered Isatou Bojang by hitting her with a stick and placing hot electrical iron on her face and other parts of her body. Awa Sanyang pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecution led evidence through seven witnesses and tendered exhibits in support its case. The convict, on the other hand, led evidence as a sole witness in her defence and there were two court witnesses who were examined and cross examined.
