Justice Minister Hikmet Sami Turk said, "annulment of death penalty, and broadcasting and education in mother tongue are the arrangements made with the aim of broadening freedoms.
No one should think that these arrangements will jeopardize national integrity and unitary structure of the state. We have taken necessary measures to prevent them."
Turk held a press conference at the Justice Ministry before leaving his office in accordance with the Constitution after parliament's decision on holding early elections on November 3, 2002.
"I believe that Turkey will lift the death sentence completely in the future within the framework of the annexed protocol no: 13 of the European Convention of Human Rights," Turk added.
