Kenya: two sentenced to death for robbery with violence

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured death sentences against two men convicted of robbery with violence in Moyale Sub-County, Marsabit County, Citizen Digital reported on Sept 22, 2026.

The accused, Nashon Ochieng Agutu and Jackson Okech Odhiambo, were charged following an incident on April 23, 2025, in the Dabel area where they robbed their victims of cash, mobile phones and other personal belongings. 

The two were reportedly acting jointly with others and armed with dangerous weapons, including guns. The victims, identified as Alinoor Mamo, Silas Kalunge, Linus Murithi Marinda and Bruno Thomas were also assaulted during the attack and sustained injuries.

They were tried before the Moyale Law Courts, led by Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. Willy Cheruiyot who found them guilty on all four counts of robbery with violence, after the prosecution successfully presented evidence.

“The court has taken into account the nature of the robbery attack, its brutality and the use of lethal weapons. A deterrent sentence is warranted. I sentence the two to death,” the magistrate ruled. 

The two were granted 14 days to appeal against their conviction and sentence.
