Khor Kok Soon was sentenced to death in Singapore

Khor Kok Soon was sentenced to death in Singapore after being found guilty of shooting at Detective Sergeant Lim Kiah Chin on July 30, 1984, when the police officer tried to arrest him on suspicion of armed robbery. 
Immediately after the sentence was handed out, the 52-year-old asked that the charge against him of killing a lorry driver be withdrawn. Otherwise, he wanted to be tried, so he could clear his name.
He had been accused of killing the man, 25-year-old Ong King Hock, who had been driving a lorry Khor allegedly hijacked and abandoned. The man was subsequently found dead at the wheel with a gunshot wound on the right side of his neck.
Khor escaped to Malaysia and had been on the run for nearly 20 years when he was arrested in Johor.
In January 2004, he was charged with killing the driver but given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on the charge, also a capital one, in September of the same year.
He was then tried for firing his gun with the intention of injuring Detective Sgt Lim. Khor's lawyer, Mr Edmond Pereira, said of the earlier charge: 'My client is very unhappy as he maintains that he is innocent of the charge of murdering the lorry driver and wants it to be withdrawn.
'If not, he wants the prosecution to proceed to a trial so that he can prove his innocence and clear his name.'
In his December 2003 police statements, he stated: 'I have committed a few robbery cases with firearms and opened fire on a few occasions, but till today, I have not killed anybody.'
