Kim Gyeong-geun, the head of external affairs for Koreans overseas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said that he had confirmed the Chinese government's investigation results into the notification procedure regarding the execution of a Korean criminal and verified that notification had taken place in accordance with International Law.
Kim said that a thorough re-investigation would be needed to ascertain why the appropriate ministry departments had not received documents notifying the Korean embassy in Beijing and consulate in Shenjang of the trial and execution [of a drug-trafficker identified only as Shin].
Earlier the ministry had denied receiving the latter documents while acknowledging it had been notified of the arrests. China had insisted that it delivered all official documents advising of the arrest, trial schedule and imposition of the death penalty, and presented dated copies of them.
