KUWAIT. COURT COMMUTES DEATH SENTENCE FOR PAKISTANI ACCUSED OF HEROIN SMUGGLING

Kuwait’s Court of Appeals commuted into life imprisonment the death sentence issued against Fadhl H., a Pakistani man charged with smuggling heroin into the country. Case files indicate that on August 23, 2003, the man arrived in Kuwait from Lahore, Pakistan, on board a Kuwait Airways flight. On arrival at the airport, the customs officer was suspicious of his bloated stomach. He referred the man to Farwaniya Hospital where he was examined and was found to be containing 99 heroin filled capsules in his stomach. He had originally been sentenced to death on November 28, 2004.
