KUWAIT: EFFORTS TO SAVE DEATH-ROW FILIPINOS

the Filipino Ambassador to Kuwait, Ricardo Endaya, talked to the Arab Times about three Filipinos, Bienvenido Espino Jr, May Vecina and Jakatia Pawa, who are awaiting the death sentence in Kuwait. When asked what he and his government are doing to save these people from the gallows, the ambassador said, “for Bienvenido Espino Jr, we are exerting efforts to secure forgiveness from the victim’s family in Philippines. Because there is strong evidence against him, we are looking for all remedies and at the same time we are pursuing for forgiveness from the family of the victim.” “With regards to Jakatia Pawa, we are hiring another lawyer, another law firm to strengthen our defence panel in the Court of Appeals and Court of Cassation. We are exhausting all legal remedies, because we believe there is no evidence against her. With respect to May Vecina, we hope the Amir will forgive her and we hope that the visit of our Vice-President will bear fruit and lead to the commutation of her death sentence.”
