Kuwait will demand that Saddam Hussein be sentenced to death for crimes against the oil-rich Gulf Arab state, public prosecutor Hamed al-Othman said
Kuwait will demand that Saddam Hussein be sentenced to death for crimes against the oil-rich Gulf Arab state, public prosecutor Hamed al-Othman said.
Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait in 1990-91 and Kuwait acted as the launchpad for the US-led Iraq war that toppled Saddam in 2003.
Othman told the Kuwait Times daily newspaper that the Kuwait government had prepared a long list of charges, supported by evidence, against Saddam.
He said the Kuwaiti Council of Ministers recently formed a committee headed by Justice Minister Ahmad Baqer to join Kuwait's prosecution in Saddam's trial.
The government, which was cooperating with Iraqi prosecutors to arrange for Kuwait's involvement in a trial of Saddam, prepared numerous files including hundreds of testimonies by Kuwaiti and other victims of the former Iraqi regime, he added.
