Libya: five sentenced to death over pregabalin smuggling


The Zintan Criminal Court has convicted five defendants of bringing large quantities of mind-altering drugs into Libya, the Attorney General’s Office said on Oct 3, 2026.
The five were arrested in possession of 2,190,750 tablets with psychoactive effects, according to a statement by the office.
The court sentenced all five to death for importing the specified quantity of pregabalin. The third and fifth defendants were also given four-year prison sentences, while the second and fourth received three-year terms for possessing weapons and ammunition.
