LIBYA. LIBYA READY TO COMPROMISE ON BULGARIAN MEDICS

the death sentences of the Bulgarian medics in Libya may be revoked if the interested parties manage to reach a consensus, the BBC cited Tripoli's foreign minister Abdel Rahman Mohammed Shalkam as saying after the visit of Bulgarian president Georgi Parvanov to Libya. The head of state met with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and with the Bulgarian nurses who were charged with intentionally infecting some 400 Libyan children with AIDS and were sentenced to death on May 6, 2004. During his talks with Gaddafi Parvanov proposed the development of an action plan outlining the actions of the two countries to support the medical treatment of the infected children. He pledged to write a letter to the European institutions and leaders and ask for assistance for the creation of a European fund for that purpose.
