Lista Bonino MEPs deposited an urgent interrogation to the Commission and the Council regarding the recent execution of a university student in Iran.
Quoting the July 22, 2003 edition of the Azerbaijani daily "Xalq Qazeti", BBC Monitoring Central Asia reported the execution, which had taken place two days previously, of 19 year old Faramaz Mohammadi, a Tabriz university student, who had "delivered radical speeches against Iran's Persian and mullah regime". According to the report the execution was ordered by the "Tabriz Revolutionary Court".
The MEPs asked, at the EP, what intentions the Commission and the Council had or if they thought it opportune to suspend relations with Iran until it respected fundamental human rights and enacted a moratorium on the death penalty.
