Luxembourg has been completely abolitionist since 1979.
The Constitution of October 17, 1868, as amended on April 29, 1999 states at Art. 18 that: "The death penalty cannot be established." The last execution was carried out in 1949.
On December 17, 2018, Luxembourg once again co-sponsored and voted in favour of the Resolution on a Moratorium on the Use of the Death Penalty at the UN General Assembly.
