Magistrate Lisa Hannan has ordered the extradition to Singapore of a British businessman, Michael McCrea, accused of a grisly double murder and ordered him to remain in custody pending receipt of a Singaporean surrender warrant.
Mr McCrea, 44, faces charges of killing his Singaporean chauffeur and the man's girlfriend, whose decomposed bodies were found in a Singapore carpark in January. Justice Minister Chris Ellison must approve the extradition before McCrea can be returned to Singapore, which has a death penalty for murder. Australian law forbids extradition to countries with capital punishment, but Singapore has given an undertaking that McCrea will not be executed if convicted.
