a court in Malaysia upheld the death sentence on an Indonesian illegal immigrant who was convicted of murdering a female tenant in a five-room house occupied by them in Selayang Baru.
The Court of Appeal unanimously dismissed Mohamed Bakri Belaho's appeal against the death sentence passed on him by the High Court for slashing the Indonesian woman.
On July 13 2000, the Shah Alam High Court convicted Mohamed Bakri, 59, of murdering Aminah Bahrah, 28, in a squatter house in Bukit Perwira on July 27, 1998.
A prosecution witness, a tenant in the house, had testified that he saw Mohamed Bakri, who was clad only in a green coloured towel, sitting on top of Aminah with one hand holding a knife and the other holding the woman's neck.
Ahmad Jumah, an Indonesian, said he left the house as he was scared but when he returned, he found the woman dead.
Aminah's half-naked body was found in the kitchen while her clothes were found in the hall.
The towel worn by Mohamed Bakri was found covering the slash wounds on Aminah's neck.
