Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the death penalty was still needed to show that the government was serious and firm in tackling serious crimes, especially those related to murder and drugs.
Mohamed Nazri also said that the government had ample laws and a system of justice to ensure that the death penalty was not imposed indiscriminately.
