Sita Raman, a 32 year old former soldier, was sentenced to death for murdering his friend by stabbing him twice in the neck at Nilai, near Bernama, Malaysia.
Raman was accused of murdering Ramesh Kumar, 24, in Nilai on January 27, 2000. The court rejected the defence’s argument that the killing was an "unfortunate incident" because the accused had only intended to cause injury to the victim's shoulder. "The accused clearly knew that his action (swinging the knife) could have injured the victim," the judge ruled.
