MALAYSIA: FRUIT SELLER GETS DEATH SENTENCE FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

A fruit seller was sentenced to death by a High Court in Malaysia for trafficking cannabis weighing 18.8kg.
Judicial Commissioner Collin Lawrence Sequerah ruled that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt to the prosecution's case against Mohammad Shukri Ibrahim, 39.
He was charged with drug trafficking after he was found with the drugs in the boot of a car in a lane next to Cherok Tokun Mosque in Bukit Mertajam at about 7pm on March 13, 2014.
He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same act, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
DPP Jailani Abdul Rahman prosecuted and the accused was represented by counsel Abu Bakar Kugaselva Abdullah.
