Malian President Alpha Oumar Konare granted pardon to former army chief of staff Col Ousmane Coulibaly, who was sentenced to death in 1992 along with former President Moussa Traore after the massacre of pro-democracy protesters in Bamako. Coulibaly was found guilty of causing the death of over 200 protesters by the army in a popular uprising that eventually led to the coup d'etat against Gen Traore on 26th March 1991.
