Maryam Ayubi, 30, was found guilty of adultery with her lover, Hossein Asna-Ashari, and of complicity in the murder of her husband. The two had killed the husband, burned his body and then abandoned it in a desert area south of Tehran. The court verdict spelt out that Ayubi was condemned to death by stoning for an "adulterous liaison" and to 15 years in jail for complicity to murder. Her lover was condemned to death by hanging and to 100 lashes for adultery. The death sentence for Ayubi was later overturned by the Supreme Court for lack of evidence , but she is still to serve 15 years imprisonment and receive 100 lashes.
