Mexican and U.S. officials said that Agustin Vazquez Mendoza, suspected in the 1994 murder of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent Richard Faso in Arizona will be extradited to the United States to stand trial.
A Mexico City court delayed proceedings until the United States provided assurances that Vazquez Mendoza would not face the death penalty or life in prison. Mexican and U.S. officials said they were confident they could work out an extradition arrangement that ensured that, if convicted, Vazquez Mendoza would serve at least 60 years in prison.
