Michael Lambert, 36, was executed. Lambert was pronounced dead at 12:29 a.m., at the Indiana State Prison. Lambert shot Officer Gregg Winters on Dec. 28, 1990, while Winters was driving him to jail on a charge of public intoxication. Another officer had patted Lambert down but did not find the gun he had in his pocket.
Lambert becomes the 2nd condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Indiana, the 23rd this year in the USA and the 1080th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
