MISSOURI (USA): ANDRE COLE EXECUTED

Andre Cole, 42, Black, was executed. Cole, was accused of killing Anthony Curtis, a friend of his ex-wife, in 1998. He had also stabbed his ex-wife repeatedly because she took him to court over child support payments he owed to her, but she survived. A jury of 12 white people found him guilty, after three black jurors were dismissed, and sentenced him to death despite numerous protests claiming the penalty smacked of racism.
Cole becomes the 3rd inmate to be put to death this year in Missouri, the 83rd overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1989, the 12th to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1406th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
