More than 3 million Thais, including students, are abusing narcotics, Justice Minister Pongthep Thepkanjana said.
Drug abuse is prevalent in every province and the number of drug users, especially methamphetamine users, is rising, he said. Pongthep spoke after leading Prem Tinsulanonda, president of the Privy Council, on a visit to a drug rehabilitation centre in Pathum Thani's Lat Lum Kaeo district.
Prem said drug traffickers should be treated as traitors to the country and executed."They do not deserve to be Thais, they deserve the death penalty," he said.
