N KOREA PURGES DEPUTY SPY CHIEF

Ryu Kyong, a deputy director of North Korea's State Security Department was allegedly executed in early January 2011 in a power struggle, according to a source. Kyong was summoned by Kim Jong-il and was arrested by members of the General Guard Bureau. According to the source he was interrogated and secretly executed. Officials are trying to confirm the execution.
The North Korean source said Ryu was suspected of being a double agent.
