Nearly 140 people held a vigil at the Appeals Court in the Lviv region, demanding that the maximum penalty, life imprisonment, be conferred upon Dmytro Voronova and Yurii Kalynina, both of who are suspected of involvement in the murder of a local composer, Ihor Bilozir.Representatives of the Batkivschyna Party, the Ukrainian National Assembly (UNA), the Ukrainian Republican Party or Sobor (URP), the Party Yednist, and the Ukrainian Christian Democratic Party (UCDP) were involved in the vigil.
"We are not satisfied with the verdict, the criminals should be given not simply the maximum penalty, but a death sentence," Roman Pak, the chairman of the Lviv branch of the Ednyst Party, said.
The Lviv regional court on 28 September 2001, condemned Kalynin to 12 years imprisonment, while Voronov received 15 years.
Bilozir was heavily beaten on 8 May 2000 near a cafe in the center of Lviv. Days later, on 28 May of that year, he died of his wounds.
