New Zealand Justice Minister Phil Goff said that the Government does not support the death penalty but that it is for India's justice system to decide what sentence to pass on Diana Routley's killer. Mr Goff was speaking in relation to Dharam Deva Yadav who was found guilty in India of the murder of 24-year-old New Zealand backpacker Diana Routley in August 1997. Alan Routley, Diana's father, said that he would have no trouble accepting Yadav's death sentence: "If the India justice system decide they are going to hang the guy, that won't cause me any difficulties."
