Nguyen Van Bun was sentenced to death in southern Vietnam

Nguyen Van Bun was sentenced to death in southern Vietnam for killing his friend's wife after having raped her. Nguyen, 34, was handed the death penalty by a makeshift "mobile" court in Tay Ninh province in a one-day trial. Nguyen Van Bun was found guilty of strangling 21-year-old Vuong Thi Thuy Oanh on August 4 after they had been drinking together while waiting for her husband to come back home. When Oanh rebuffed his advances, the drunken man raped and then strangled her. He was arrested five days after committing the crime.
