Nicole Cheves, Deputy Consul General of Portugal, conveyed to Governor George Bush an urgent humanitarian appeal by the European Union on behalf of Mr. Jessy San Miguel, scheduled to be executed on June 28. "Appealing to our common sense of justice and moral responsibility, the European Union respectfully urges you to commute Mr. San Miguel's sentence to life imprisonment or any other penalty compatible with State law." Nicole Cheves wrote. San Miguel was executed on June 29.
