Amnesty International (AI) condemned the Law passed by the Imo State House of Assembly in Nigeria, stipulating the death penalty for anyone convicted for kidnapping or whose premises was used by a kidnapper to hold someone hostage. Amnesty in a statement by its Nigeria Researcher, Mr. Aster Kregten, said “extending the scope of the death penalty to include this crime is a retrogressive step that does nothing to protect the victims.”
